here is some info about the company from "http://www.crayoncollecting.com/Other/AmericanCrayon.htm"
American Crayon company was a bit of a late player in the wax crayon industry as there were other companies like Franklin Mfg. Co and Standard Crayon that has been producing crayons for many years by that time. They quick launched products like Crayonart, Blendwel and Crayograph in 1907and then Pastello in 1908. These lines would stay consistent for over 50 years.
They competed head-to-head with Binney & Smith's Crayola products; both launching major media campaigns using coloring contests. By the time Leverett Curtis became President in 1910 they were establishing themselves as one of the largest companies in the industry.
American Crayon was one of only a small number of companies that were allowed to use the word "American" on their products and had a prominent "A" logo on nearly all of their crayon products from 1902 up until 1918 when they decided to adopt a new symbol for their company and chose the Old Faithful symbol from Yellowstone Park; a depiction of their ever faithful geyser that would launch steam on a nearly clockwork timeframe.
In 1919 they expanded and opened an Eastern office in New York City and added a Brooklyn warehouse. Brooklyn at that time was considered one of the core hubs for crayon manufacturers with more than a dozen different crayon companies located in the area. By 1922 American Crayon had grown to the point that they started influencing the art industry through a new publication, "Everyday Art" dedicated to art instruction. They also acquired the rights to the Prang name. Louis Prang was a father of art in education and developed a lot of art material, including crayons. The Prang name continues to this day.
