MATCH YOUR STYLE PERFECTLY: Light to medium weight cotton fabric works best, but you can use almost any other fabric with some extra effort. Open a whole world of colors, patterns, and textures by covering your lamp shade with new fabric and embellishments
PRE-CUT AND EASY TO MEASURE: Determine the length of styrene you need for your project by multiplying the desired diameter by pi (3.14) and adding 1 inch
MULTIPLE SIZE OPTIONS: Available in multiple sizes, including 5 yard lengths for multiple lamp refurbishing projects. It can also be cut down to achieve your desired size
Product Description
Adhesive (or "pressure-sensitive") styrene by I Like That Lamp is a thin polystyrene sheet with a sticky adhesive backing. It's the type of material that most high quality lampshades are made with. A release liner is attached to the adhesive side, which is pulled off when you're ready to adhere material to the styrene.
Adhesive styrene is perfectly suited to making lampshades because it's light but sturdy and durable. It helps the lampshade keep its form over many years. Unlike paper or card, it's also flame-resistant, so can make for a safer shade, especially if using higher-wattage bulbs.
Completely Customizable
A light-medium weight cotton is the easiest material to make a lampshade out of, but we've seen our customers make lampshades out of everything from paper to leather. Here are some of our favourite lampshade material ideas:
Decorative Paper
Jute Twine or Burlap
Wood Veneer or Metal
Leather, Suede or Denim

Making a Lampshade is a Lot Easier Than You Might Think! From Start to Finish, It Will Take Only an Hour of Your Time.
Step One
Apply the adhesive side to the reverse side of your fabric by peeling back 5" at a time and smoothing it down with your hand.
Step Two
Trim the fabric overhang, leaving a 1/2 inch overhang on all sides, except on one of the short sides.
Step Three
Apply glue to the fabric overhang
on the short side of the styrene.
Step Four
Press down to adhere
your fabric to the styrene.
Step Five
Roll the styrene into a cylinder. Attach binder clips on each end to keep the cylinder in place. Keep the ‘arms’ of the top clip facing up. Lower the top ring (the one with spokes) onto the top binder clip so it rests between the arms.
Step Six
Make sure the ring’s spikes face down inside the lampshade. Use more binder clips to position the top ring flush with the styrene edge.
Step Seven
Section by section, apply the glue to the overhanging fabric and distribute it with an old paintbrush or the nozzle of the glue bottle. Once the glue is tacky, fold the fabric over the ring and use the moulding stick to gently push the fabric up and behind the rings.
Step Eight
Once the top is done, flip the lampshade over and repeat this process for the bottom ring. Apply some glue under the seam to finish.
Allow your glue to completely dry before removing the butterfly clips.
