Sundet (Khitan) is an ancient rite of circumcision, which was carried out for Kazakh boys and symbolized their initiation into horsemen. Earlier, in honor of this event, the child's parents arranged a real toy Sundet Toi (festive feast) with baiga, kokpar and other entertainments. And the guests presented valuable gifts to the hero of the occasion, the most significant of which was considered to be livestock. So, it was considered good form when maternal relatives gave the boy his first personal horse.
The ancient rite of Sundet originated in the steppe with the advent of Islam. Until that time, the Huns, Sakas, Scythians, Massagets, Turks worshiped the deity Tengri and professed shamanism. Muslim customs required the removal of the foreskin from boys and men. The Qur'an does not say this directly, but there are many hadiths (legends) about the need for circumcision.
