    The crayons have not been used. The hang tab perforations & interior tabs are intact.  Some of the inner cardboard might have slight wax transfer.  Some of the outer cardboard might have slight rubbing.  But none of the boxes has much more age than you would see in a fresh pack!

    Crayola collectors!  Here is the basic story of one of the most collectable crayon sets out there!
    The Magic Scent line came out in 1994.
    These scented crayons were only sold for less than 18 months before being discontinued
    .  You may remember hearing it was found kids would rather eat them than color with them!
    The original 1994 boxes featured both food smells and outdoor smells.  The original 1994 16-count box has a strawberry and grape image on the front, reflecting the foods theme.  The original food version also has images of fruit on the hang tab.  Subsequent versions have blank hang tags.
    Later in 1994, the line started a transition toward non-food items, likely due to parents unhappy with the possibility of a crayon diet preferred by their children.  The image on the front of the box was changed to a rose and a pine tree, and the hang tab is purple only.  This later-1994 version also has the very rare single appearance of the color “jelly bean”.
    In 1995, the rose and pine tree image on the front of the box remained but the color-scents were changed to be a bit more extravagant.  The selection now included things like “leather jacket” and “new car” and “shampoo”.
    The patent for these crayons shows they have micro-capsules embedded within them.  When the crayon is used, the micro-capsules break and the fragrance is emitted.
