California interstate 280
route sign. Made to the exact 1961 standard from the origins of the Eisenhower interstate highway system.  the wider shields came with the revision of 1961 - previously, three-digit route markers were the same size as two-digit, but with narrower numerals.
this design was supplanted by the modern shield style - often with the state name omitted! - in 1971, and it gets harder and harder to find the original-style interstate route markers in many states.
This sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts.  It weighs about 14 pounds, 7 ounces, and is 28 by 24 inches, the middle of three sizes specified in the 1961 signage manual (the other sizes are 21x18 and 42x36).  it is a non-reflective sign - perfect for ordinary display, indoors or outdoors.

Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection. This one will make even the most discerning collector stick their nose into the sign, as it looks that good from that close!
