    Description

    The 1868 has a very small mintage with less than 11,000 pieces being struck compared to nearly 100,000 Double Eagles that were produced at the facility that year. T
    here was little contemporary need for the Eagle denomination, as the Double Eagle favored by banking and export circles. The 1868 eventually did circulate and nearly all survivors are in VF to AU grades. they may be 200 in collectors hands.
